CHAPTER 8 The Ark Settles on Ararat

1 And God called to mind Noah, and all of the wild beasts, and all of the cattle, and all of the winged creatures, and all of the crawling things, as much as was with him in the ark. And God brought a wind upon the earth, and [³abated ¹the ²water]. 2 And were revealed the springs of the abyss and the torrents of the heaven. And [³was constrained ¹the ²rain] from the heaven. 3 And [³gave way ¹the ²water] going from the earth; and [³was lessened ¹the ²water] after fifty and a hundred days. 4 And [³settled ¹the ²ark] in the seventh month, the seventh and twentieth of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the water going forth lessened unto the tenth month. In the first of the month, [⁵appeared ¹the ²heads ³of the ⁴mountains]. 6 And it came to pass after forty days, Noah opened the window of the ark which he made. And he sent forth the crow to see if [³abated ¹the ²water]. 7 And going forth it returned not until the drying of the water from the earth. 8 And he sent the dove after it to see if [³abated ¹the ²water] from the earth. 9 And [³no ⁴finding ¹the ²dove] rest for her feet, returned to him into the ark, for water was upon all the face of the earth. And stretching out the hand, he took her to himself, and he brought her into the ark. 10 And waiting still [³days ²seven ¹another], again he sent out the dove from the ark. 11 And [³returned ⁴to ⁵him ¹the ²dove]; and she had [³leaf ²of an olive ¹a twig] in her mouth; and Noah knew that [³abated ¹the ²water] from the earth. 12 And waiting still [³days ²seven ¹another]; again he sent out the dove; and she proceeded not to return to him again. 13 And it came to pass in the one and six hundredth year in the life of Noah, the first month, day one of the month, [³subsided ¹the ²water] from the earth. And Noah uncovered the roof of the ark which he made. And he beheld that [³subsided ¹the ²water] from the face of the earth. 14 And in the [²month ¹second], seventh and twentieth of the month, [³was dried ¹the ²earth]. 15 And [³said ¹the lord ²God] to Noah, saying, 16 Come forth from out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons, and the wives of your sons with you! 17 And all flesh from winged creatures unto cattle, and every reptile moving upon the earth, lead out with yourself! And grow and multiply upon the earth! 18 And Noah came forth, and his wife, and his sons, and the wives of his sons with him. 19 And all the wild beasts, and all the cattle, and every winged creature, and every reptile moving upon the earth, according to their type, came forth from the ark. 20 And Noah built an altar to the lord. And he took from all the [²cattle ¹clean], and from all the [²winged creatures ¹clean], and offered them for a whole burnt-offering upon the altar. 21 And the lord smelled the scent of pleasant aroma. And [³said ¹the lord ²God], In considering, I will not add yet to curse the earth on account of the works of men, for [⁴clings ¹the ²thought ³of man] upon the wicked things from his youth. I will not add then still to strike all [²flesh ¹living] as I did. 22 All the days of the earth, seed and harvest, chilliness and sweltering heat, summer and spring, day and night, will not be caused to cease.
